Petit and Grand Morin

The vineyard of Petit and Grand Morin is the southern extension of the Côte des Blancs. It forms a patchwork made up of two main sectors, the Congy-Villevenard et la region of Sézanne.

The former is located west of the Côte des Blancs. Here, the slopes are much narrower than those further north between Cramant et Vertus. They are only a few hundred metres wide. Their slopes are also less steep, at an average close to 9%.

The subsoil is mainly chalk, too (with some areas made up of marl, limestone or sand).

Its total area covers nearly 960 hectares, 50% of which is planted with Pinot Meunier, followed by Chardonnay. These wines are eminently well-balanced.

The region of Sézanne is located further south and shows a narrow vineyard that culminate at 230 metres at the highest point, made up of well-defined hills sloping at an average of 10% (maximum 30%). Its subsoil is mainly chalky, but different kinds of clay are also present. The area covers 1450 hectares ; the main variety is Chardonnay (75%). The resulting wines are similar to those grown in the Côte des Blancs, but add their own characteristics.
